Design 9 Custom Manufacturing Inc, is a custom upholstered furniture design company whose cutting edge designs successfully represents the epitome of true + pure modern American furniture design. It is rare today to have a successful manufacturing company founded and completely run by its designer.  Owner-Designer Tricia Moe, formerly of Outer Limits, first ventured into the furniture industry 25 years ago when as antique dealer she started to refurbish original Mid-Century furniture for her Hollywood clientele. That profound experience coupled with ongoing encouragement from her loyal customers, provided the fundamental foundation + inspiration for her to create her own one-of-a-kind furniture designs in her California studio.
The goal was for every piece to harmoniously blend new artistic values with “old world” skilled craftsmanship. That original philosophy has transcended from her expansive early repertoire to her new cutting edge collections found in many commercial & interior design applications including nightclubs, day spas, coffee houses, as well as prominent upscale homes.

Today the company, with a clientele of over 300 Designers and many prominent retail stores throughout North America, has garnished a trusted reputation as well as meaningful recognition among the country’s top preeminent purveyors of the “West Coast modern look” which has captured the imagination of upscale homes, modern retailers, Hollywood celebrities, and commercial venues. Tricia’s designs are in many Casino and Hotels such as Ceasar’s Palace, The W, MGM Mirage, Shorty’s, La Bella Sera Hotel and Suites, and The Westin Hotels to name a few. Her designs have also graced the creative offices of MTV and Disney Studios, can be seen on HBO’s “The Sopranos” and has been featured on numerous Home & Garden Television programs as well as in many advertising campaigns for such programs as “Jay Leno”, ” Will & Grace” & “Suddenly Susan” with Brooke Shields. The company showcases its new lines twice a year at their permanent showroom at 220 Elm Suite 311 in High point, North Carolina.

Upholstery Construction

• The company features over 100 different frames in many different collections & styles.

• The upholstery construction is meticulously bench-crafted and made with kiln-dried poplar and/or Alder hardwoods.

• Both 4/4 and 5/4 stock are used.

• All stress points are reinforced with corner blocks. Joints are glued, screwed, stapled and/or doweled.

• In some cases on more fragile frames, steel reinforcements are used for added support.

• Depending upon the frame, Design 9  uses heavy gauge sinuous steel, with no sag springs and no sag matrix webbing, and all frames are interlaced for long lasting support and comfort.

• Edgeroll is applied to both seats and backs.

• All Frames are layered with cotton.

• Only high grades of polyurethane foam are used on seats and backs.

• Loose pillow back cushions are filled with super-soft poly-fiber fill.

• Entire frames are encased in a super-soft low-melt Dacron wrap.

• One craftsman is assigned to each piece from start to finished product, with their initials and/or numbers stamped under each product.

• Design 9 is proud to continually add new processes and technologies in their current manufacturing facilities and their knowledge of materials, manufacturing and resources is refined with the development of each piece.
